What to do during an earthquake

Earthquake can cause tsunami, landslide or volcanic activity. The strongest earthquake happened in Sumatra in 2004 with a magnitude of 9.1. It claimed over 200, 000 lives.

What should you do when there is an earthquake?

  • If you are indoors, stay there! Do not run outside while the ground is shaking. Apply the “Drop, Cover and Hold” principle. Find a desk or a table and stay under it while holding on to it.
  • If you are outside, find an open area. Stay away from buildings, power lines or anything that might fall on you.
  • If you are driving, park your car in an open area but not on or under the bridge or under power lines or tree.

We do not know when disaster will happen, but it is good to gain knowledge on what to do at this time. If it happens, we are prepared and we know what to do. Just a piece of advice: stay calm and do not panic!
