Sapa is located in the northern part of Vietnam. It is part of Lao Cai province, bordering the province of Yunnan, China. It is popular for tourists due to its panoramic view, which includes mountains, rice terraces, rivers and ethnic hill tribes.
There are three ways on how you can reach Sapa from Hanoi. Here are those:
By train
Traveling by train from Hanoi to Sapa is the longest mode of transportation. It takes about nine hours to reach Sapa from Hanoi. What is even worse is that, the train stops in Lao Cai. Then, you need to take a mini-bus, which will take your from Lao Cai to Sapa. That takes another one hour of travel.
By bus
Traveling by bus is the best option to reach Sapa from Hanoi. The travel time to Sapa takes about seven hours. Unlike the train, there is no need for you to take another mode of transportation as the bus goes directly to Sapa without stopping in Lao Cai. The fare to Sapa costs 200, 000 VND or $8 to $10.
By private car
Traveling by private car to Sapa is the fastest mode of transportation. It takes about five hours to reach Sapa from Hanoi. Of course, if this transportation is the fastest, this is also the most expensive. It is more practical to take this mode of transportation if you have your own car. Otherwise, just take public transportation.
