Teacher Sherilyn is a graduate of BS Family Life and Child Development and Masters of Distance Education from the University of the Philippines. She also has completed Certificate in Early Education Leadership from the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
Teacher Sherilyn has taught three years at the Centre for International Education British School – The School for Leaders for three years before moving to Singapore as an early childhood educator from 2011 to 2021.
Now, Teacher Sherilyn is based in Canada. She is a licensed Early Childhood Educator, Infant/Toddler Educator and Special Needs Educator.
With over 15 years experience in the field of education, she worked with children from birth to 13 years of age in child care and formal school settings.
Some of her notable works during her 10-year teaching stint in Singapore include:
- Using open source software Edubuntu in early childhood education to reinforce children’s learning. She introduced this in K2 classroom as her innovation project in 2013. Results of this project was presented during the 20th Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Conference (PECERA) International Conference in Taipei on July 2019.
- Promoting a preschool curriculum that is responsive to the needs of the society. She integrated in her lesson those activities that teach children how to become a good member of the community at their age. This led her to do another innovation project in 2016 that encourage children to save water and advocate water conservation to adults.
- Empowering teachers by administering online training, which was her capstone project and the research she conducted was presented during the 19th Pacific Early Childhood Education Research Conference (PECERA) International Conference at Hilton Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia on July 2018.
Teacher Sherilyn was invited by the IBE-UNESCO to speak about “Big Data for Small Children” at the Second Biennial Conference on Early Childhood Care and Education on February 2019 in Seychelles. Also, she was invited to share about the same topic at Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization (SEAMEO) Innotech, Quezon City, Philippines on May 2019.
Teacher Sherilyn was featured by LittleLives, Singapore’s No, 1 preschool management system, in this interview and in the webpage of her Alma Mater.
Aside from teaching, Teacher Sherilyn is also fond of capturing moments. Some of her classroom photographs were published in Young Families Magazine and PCF Website. Her videos of Mount Sinabung’s biggest eruption in 2017 were also released on 30th December 2017 by various news organizations like Yahoo news, MSN news and Australia news via Storyful.
