H’mong is among the ethnic groups inhabiting one of the villages in Sapa, Vietnam. Lao Cai Village, where Black H’mong lives, is 12 kilometres away from the Sapa Town Centre. To reach this village, a one to three days tour are being offered to tourists.

The tour starts at the Sapa Town Centre whereby a local tour guide will fetch you from the hotel. Then, you will start the trek to the village. It takes about 3-and-a-half to four hours before you reach the Lao Cai village. Along the way, you will be seeing rice terraces, mountains and rivers.

Be careful when it rains as the way can be muddy and slippery.

Once you reach the village, you will have lunch in one of its restaurants. After lunch, the tour starts again. The guide will bring you to a local house and will introduce you deeper to the H’mong culture.

Before you enter the house, you will see the machine above. The H’mong separate the hull from the rice grain using this water-powered machine.

The circle-shaped is a tool made of stone and it is used to grind corn into powdery texture, which can be used to make a corn cake.

These are kegs where dyes are being stored.

After submerging clothes in a keg full of dye, the cloth will be put on top of this stone. Next, another stone will be put over. Then, you may step on the top stone to squeeze the excess water.
