Henna art for kids

As you promote the colorful Indian tradition to your kids, using henna as an art medium is something that the kids will enjoy. They are able to freely express themselves and be as creative as they can by making a henna art.

First, all you have to do is to allow your child to trace his/her hand on a paper and cut it following the lines. After that, she may begin designing patterns on the hand or just draw any pictures or images that he/she likes. It is a different kind of experience for the children. They will surely love this activity!

Henna paste that is ready for use can be bought in Indian stores. If you are planning to make your own henna paste, below are the ingredients needed:

  • henna powder
  • lemon juice (or some will use water)
  • essential oil
  • sugar

To start, all you need to do is to mix the henna powder and the sugar in a bowl. Then, add the essential oil and lemon juice. After that, mix together until the desired consistency has been achieved. Finally, let it stay for 4 to 6 hours until the dye has been released. To check if the dye has been released, put a dot of henna on the tip of your finger and let it stay there for about five minutes. When the henna stain turns orange, that means that the dye has been released. You may now put the henna paste in the your cones and freeze it until you are ready to use the henna paste you made!
